CAMPING IN A CLAN

There are just so many advantages to exploring as a group. Don’t believe us? Here are 6 great reasons why we reckon when it comes to camping, the more the merrier!

Camping is one of those things that is often best enjoyed with great company. Camping with a crowd of friends and family also has a bunch of benefits which range from cutting down your camp chores and workload to saving a few bucks along the way. However, it’s not always smooth sailing. There is a knack to ensuring a large group of friends remain, well, friends at the end of a shared adventure. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the advantages of camping with your buddies and extended family, along with how to ensure your adventure runs as smoothly as possible.

1. CATERING FOR CROWDS

There are a bunch of different ways to handle the food side of things on a group adventure. Sure, everyone can just look after themselves, but that doesn’t do much for the campsite camaraderie. One option that works well on smaller weekend adventures is to do a group shop and split the costs evenly between everybody. This means you not only save money by buying bulk, but not everybody has to fork out extra money for basic condiments like salt, pepper and aluminium foil.

On longer touring trips, another method is to share the cooking by allocating each family a night to cook for the whole crew. Why not have a bit of fun with it with some light-hearted banter around who’s the best cook in camp?

2. KIDS CAMP

Perhaps the biggest advantage of camping with friends and family is the kids will all have somebody to play with, providing they are of a similar age. The best thing to do is organise to bring the right toys and entertainment along on your trip. So, if one kid brings a bike, make sure everyone else brings a bike as well. However, if one somebody brings a football this can be shared, so it’s better if you bring another game along for everybody to enjoy! These days, a portable projector is a real hit for large groups as it allows everybody to watch a movie together at your own outdoor cinema!

3. ADVANTAGES FOR ADULTS

Good times with like-minded company are perhaps the biggest reason to camp in a group. Deep and entertaining conversation around the campfire with a couple of “happy hour” beverages is a perfect way to relax and unwind. But there is another advantage to camping in a crowd of trusted individuals, shared parenting! Dad’s, why not take the kids bushwalking to spot some wildlife so mum and her friends can relax on the beach with a glass of wine? You get where we’re going with this, right?

4. CUTTING DOWN ON CHORES

Many hands make light work, and this is especially true when camping in groups. Firewood collection becomes a heck of a lot quicker and easier. Plus, if you have to purchase wood it can work out cheap as you can share the cost.

Extra hands also make setting up tarp shelters easier, and it’s help make the washing up a much less tedious job.

5. GEAR FOR GROUPS

The real beauty about camping with a crowd is you don’t have to bring every single bit of camping gear you own and overload your 4WD in the process. Instead, with a bit of organisation you can share the load between vehicles. For example, not everybody needs to bring a chainsaw, just one will suffice. The same goes for things like cooking equipment, tarps and tools.

6. CAMPSITES FOR CROWDS

Naturally, it’s a little difficult to find campsites that are able to accommodate large groups. However, you will have the advantage of seeking out private property to hire for everybody, which would naturally be too expensive if you were camping on your own.

THE WRAP

Well, there you have it. Camping with a group of likeminded individuals can not only be a heck of a lot of fun, but actually quite advantageous. It will require a little thought and planning to ensure your adventure runs as smoothly and stress free as possible, but if you get it right it will no doubt create long lasting memories across several generations! Happy camping!
