NEW 2024 SILVERADO HD LTZ PREMIUM

Caravanning gets all the more easier in the range-topping 2024 HD LTZ PREMIUM turbo diesel

In the past few years GM Specialty Vehicles set its sights on the caravanning community bringing the tow-friendly Chevrolet Silverado line-up to our shores. Already offering 14 camera views and ready-to-hitch capabilities out of the box, Chevrolet builds upon this successful towing platform for caravan and camping adventures with the turbo diesel 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 ‘Heavy Duty’ LTZ Premium.

A new facelift, restyled cabin, engine refinements, automated driving smarts and tow safety initiatives are among the latest advancements. Here’s a quick rundown of what this mighty V8’s got.

13.5-inch Display

Those of us who value the Silverado’s towing presets and multiple camera views that assist with reversing, hitching up and changing lanes will appreciate Chevrolet’s move to a 13.4-inch diagonal colour touch screen display, which Chevrolet says is the largest infotainment screen in the segment. It’s complemented by the new 12.3-inch driver display and made possible by a thorough overhaul of the 2500 HD cabin comprising a BOSE sound upgrade and heated jet black leather upholstery.

Let’s Talk Power

According to house figures, the new 6.6-litre Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 gets a 18kW leg up on its previous variant 350kW and more torque delivering an impressive 1332 Nm capabilities (up from 1234 Nm). Happily for caravanners, Chevrolet directs those gains to the low end of the 10-speed Allison gearbox, improving acceleration efficiency on tow, at traffic stops and up hills by up to 25 percent.

Adaptive Cruise Control on Tow

While some RVers debate the merits of Cruise Control on towing, Chevrolet absolutely supports it, introducing Adaptive Cruise Control with Camera that’s fully operational when you’re towing. The latest ACC improves towing safety by accounting for the extra drag and weight of your van, trailer or camper when it comes to calculating braking–expanding upon Chevrolet’s already-extensive suite of trailer-aware driver assist features such as the StabiliTrak Trailer Sway Control.

Tow Safety Alerts

Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Alert are established vehicle safety features but Chevrolet extends it further introducing the Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert (TSBZA) to the 2024 Chevrolet SIlverado 2500 Heavy Duty LTZ Premium. Another vital tow safety initiative includes the new Gross Combined Mass Alert (GCMA) that warns the driver if their vehicle and trailer exceed the vehicle’s Gross Combined Weight Ratings.

2024 Styling

Style-wise, the 2024 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ enjoys quite a few external refinements starting with the striking front facia and body colour grille and sharp-looking C-shaped LED lamps with dual projector technology.  Black matt extrusions like the hood vent, skid plate, door handles and beltline moulding complement the updated aesthetic. Storage volume on the tray gets a boost, with the 2024 variant offering up to 1968 litres of storage capacity. The latest 2500 HD LTZ also comes in a choice of four colours including a new Slate Grey Metallic, Summit White, Red Hot and Black.
