LEGEND FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER

CAMPER TRAILER SPOTLIGHT: Offtrax Feenix

Born from years of research and development, designed and built in Australia, the Feenix is here to make waves

WORDS BY MICHAEL BORG

Any company that prides themselves on producing quality over quantity, uses only the best accessories they can get their mittens on and takes real pride in their product is sure to build a sensational camper trailer. Guess what? That’s exactly what we have under the spotlight right here in this issue of Camper Trailer Lifestyle. After recently taking out the 2021 Camper Trailer of the Year award, we thought we’d check out exactly what makes the OFFTRAX Feenix tick. So come on, let’s get stuck into it!

TOUGH STUFF

The unique chassis design of the Feenix is where it gets its genuine strength and toughness from. You see, the chassis and drawbar are not your ordinary “ladder chassis”. It is one continuous full-length design, which offers premium strength right from the get-go. Any chance of a twisted drawbar is prevented by utilising a 100x100x6mm central beam, which runs from the hitch point all the way back to the suspension. This central beam is also extendable to accommodate tray back utilities or SUV’s with barn style doors that require a longer drawbar for extra clearance. Naturally, being made in Australia, OFFTRAX utilise Australian BlueScope Steel, which is hot dipped galvanised for long term corrosion resistance for a lifetime of Aussie adventures.

DESIGNED FOR OFF-ROAD

Being born with off-road touring in mind, the Feenix’s chassis has been strategically designed to accommodate fabricated “Pan Inserts”, which form part of the trailer body. These Pan Inserts house the batteries and water tanks internally in the belly of the camper’s body, which is technically below the chassis rails. This immensely assists to lower the trailer’s centre of gravity. The end result is increased stability, especially in extreme conditions.

To ensure the suspension is up to the task, OffTrax have opted for the tried and tested All-Terrain Cruisemaster XT Suspension. It’s yet another Australian made product designed for Australian conditions and proven to not only handle the rigors of off-road punishment but perform well on and off-road as well.

STORAGE FOR DAYS

When it comes to storage the Feenix has an abundance of it, over 2500 litres of storage capacity utilized over 9 separate compartments to be exact. You’ll find massive full rear extension storage drawers with adjustable inserts to keep things neat and in their place, and each drawer runs on heavy duty 227kg capacity locking slides. There are also two large additional storage compartments on the driver’s side for more bulkier items like chairs, a Porta Potti or even 2x 20lt Jerry Cans.

COOKING QUARTERS

On the passenger side of the camper you will find the “Hub” of this little beauty with a comprehensive, well equipped kitchen. The front nosecone compartment houses the ultra-reliable 60lt National Luna Dual Zone fridge/freezer, and there are two good size pantry drawers and a large flush mounted Rimex stainless steel benchtop providing a clear workspace to prepare your tucker. A two-burner stove with grill is housed in a “sunken” Rimex stainless steel insert to keep the top of the stove at the same workable level as the benchtop too. Plus, the integrated swing up / fold down tap is plumbed with hot water for convenience.

LATEST ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY

The Feenix is fitted with the state-of-the-art REDARC RedVision TVMS (Total Vehicle Management System) as standard. Combined with plenty of other Redarc goodies, this system replaces the traditional style rocker switches and bulky switch panels while providing you with ten output circuits, which puts you in total control of each individual light circuit. It even allows you to track information such as the batteries state of charge, current draw, charge (vehicle, solar or 240) input, water tank levels, fridge temperature.
