Imagine a hot, balmy Christmas. A touch of rain, kids playing barefoot underneath the Ghost Gums and then your look of wonder as they glow white light at night under a canvas of stars. This is the magic of the Australian Outback Christmas.

Just in time for Christmas, iconic Territory Country Singer Melanie Gray has released her first ever Christmas song. Guaranteed to have you singing along to “Santa come and join me for a billy tea tonight” by the second chorus. This is a song you are going to want to add to your Christmas play list and use as the soundtrack to the Aussie Christmas photos you share to your socials this year.

“The first time I heard this song, I played it on a loop all night. This song plucks the strings of my heart and, although I sometimes miss the white Christmas back in Europe, Mel’s song makes you realise that the Australian Christmas can be even more magical and powerful, because it holds mystical meanings beyond traditions. The song is a reflection of what Christmas should be, a time of reflection and gratitude. This song should be an Australian Christmas hit!”Paolo Fabris, Director, School of Music at Charles Darwin University

The song was originally written nearly 2 years ago with fellow Country Music star Katrina Burgoyne, while Gray was attending The CMAA Academy of Country Music.

“For me, the song is a memory of outback adventures. Christmas time always seems too busy. We are often rushing around attempting to complete a never ending ‘to-do’ list. This song moves me to take pause more often and just be in the moment with my family and friends. You don’t even need presents when you have presence right…right? I hope this song can be a present of presence to anyone that needs it this Christmas”Melanie Gray
